Virtual reality has already become part of our lives, and today, the metaverse is the next frontier in VR, society, jobs, and IT Recruitment.

As far back as the 1990s, the concept of virtual worlds was being explored through the creative minds of writers. In 1999, the Matrix was released. It paved the way for the arrival of a sequence of interconnected virtual reality. Anime has also covered this topic frequently, as far back as 20 years ago such as in 1998s Serial Experiments Lain.

Before, we vastly depended on plug-ins and cords. Today, a more digitally developed world allows us to be connected with different extended worlds.

We have been interconnected with the verge of metaverse just by doing our daily routines like communicating with our remote friends and relatives and connecting to work or school. Meta- also known as Facebook is already committing more than $10 billion to the metaverse.

Companies in the field of Metaverse Gaming, combining the new trends of Blockchain and NFT have been blooming like crazy. This year our IT Recruiters at SVA Recruitment have been working with 3 growing companies already in the field, in the cities of Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, and Dubai.

An approximate $800 billion market size is expected by 2024 as 10,000 more jobs are anticipated to be made in the 5-year period.

With this, Silicon Valley Associates Recruitment tries to will tackle what metaverse is and how it will affect our future. Moreover, what things do we need to do to succeed in this field?

Here’s what you need to know:

What is Metaverse?

From what we know earlier, the concept of metaverse has been around since the early 90s. In general, the metaverse is a term used to describe virtual worlds online and has interactive users. Some popular games like Minecraft and World of Warcraft are considered as 3D virtual worlds where users can design and create their avatars and interact with other users. These games are being primarily played by specific age groups despite their availability for several years.

The release of Fortnite in 2017 was surged by millions of players globally. Players of various age groups with different skill levels were enticed by its creative graphics, battle plays, and other features. The booming of Fortnite hyped up the concept of metaverse plus it has a freemium model which is available for a wider range of users.

Fortnite is only one of the concepts that drove the vast popularity of metaverse. Another one is the announcement of Facebook changing their name to Meta which prompted a lot of media attention around the world.

Recently, the financial services and digital payments company, Square owned by the former CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey, also changed its name to Block which according to him symbolizes its transformation from 2D to 3D.

Furthermore, the increasing popularity and usage of social networking and having to deal with isolation and social distancing provoked the creation of online communities which led to the sudden change of living in a physical world to a digital one.

The increasing popularity of NFTs is proving effective in creating digital contracts that assign unique and verifiable digital assets to users.

The metaverse as we know it is representative of the Internet's evolution from a collection of website links to a virtual world in which users can socialize and work together in real-time.

Working in the Metaverse

New and innovative online platforms are changing the way people interact in virtual environments. Rather than simply browsing the web, we are creating our own virtual worlds to interact with others. This is enabling us to learn, socialize, and do business in new ways.

The term "avatar-based job" refers to any job that is accomplished without the employee being physically present at the employer's premises. Avatar-based occupations include customer service, telemarketing, technical support, and tutoring.

The industries involving creative jobs such as graphic design, scriptwriting, and video production are growing; they easily transfer into the digital landscape. Avatar-based jobs allow people to work remotely from anywhere in the world. This opportunity is ideal for people who are unable to work full-time or whose family responsibilities do not permit them to travel.

But in the long run, it will be those who are better skilled and equipped with the ability to creatively adapt to the changing needs of new technologies that will find employment. To traverse into online spaces, social and emotional intelligence is necessary, expertise in digital and creative production tools and the capability to learn and grow consistently.

Metaverse Jobs in Demand

The metaverse will influence industries such as gaming, but it will also affect areas like education, real estate, business apps, transportation, and healthcare.

As it's such a new concept, when discussing jobs in the metaverse industry, it's important to avoid focusing on job titles and instead look at what each job actually entails.

Rather than what you call yourself, coder, programmer, software engineer, web developer, focus on what skills technically, soft skills, and other things you picked along the way you can bring.

Having metaverse, blockchain, or gaming experience is an advantage but since these are such recent concepts that employers do not expect such as experience and are happy to train you up if you have an interest.

Certain types of jobs within the metaverse that are currently in high demand, such as 3D modeler, animator, and artist, all possess similar skills. These skills relate to both technical and creative abilities. The more knowledge you have about these areas of study, the more types of jobs you could potentially hold.

As an example, 3D modeling is the process of creating two-dimensional images or animations from three-dimensional digital data. It is used in diverse industries such as architecture, engineering, product design, and manufacturing. A 3D modeler creates digital assets for use in virtual-reality worlds- buildings, landscapes, characters, etc. They create textures, lighting, and motion for seen objects so that users have a realistic experience.

Combining UX design knowledge with expertise in augmented reality can help improve metaverse experience design for digital content being blended with real-world representations. Bringing a Iot of knowledge into the picture expands the end-to-end design process. This is just an illustration of the broad range of possible career paths that can be created from a diverse set of skills and knowledge. To succeed, you must focus on your skills and upskilling.
