Interview Assessment Notes

  1. She is currently working as Technical Support in XXX. She usually resolves SQL related cases every day, including SQL AG, SQL FCI, SQL authentication, SQL performance, etc. 80% of the cases are critical and urgent, and she need to respond in like less than 30 minutes. At the end of every case, clients will give survey to us. In my last 2 years, my average score is 95.6%.
  2. One of her memorable complex issue that she experiences was she came across a patch upgrade failure issue---after applying the patch, client was not able to start-up SQL unless using trace flag 902. She read error logs but can only know that this is due to an internal SQL script ('msdb110_upgrade.sql'). That was her first time that she met such issues. (She was quite fresh at that time). She did a lot of tests and tried to reproduce such issue in her lab. But she failed. She discussed it with co-workers and asked for escalation engineer internally. According to our discussion and the test, we felt sure that there was an uncommitted transaction when running 'msdb110_upgrade.sql'. We read SQL Error logs again and found that there was a login domain account to msdb database which may have issues. So, they went through the script again and looked for related commands. It seems this script will find out non sysadmin Agent job owners. Grant msdb access to those job owner accounts may work. Bingo! With her test, research, and co-workers’ help, they resolved this case.
  3. In Communication skill she rates herself 5out 5 because she likes to communicate with clients while doing troubleshooting.
  4. In Learning skills. She rates herself 4 out 5. Because she likes to learn new things and challenges can make her progress.
